Hidden treasures at Recycling Centres

Veolia and Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority’s initiative to get Merseyside and Halton to recycle more electricals has been a huge success including one lucky winner who has bagged a Kindle Fire HD.

The ‘scratch to win’ initiative was launched in August 2014, giving Merseyside and Halton residents the chance to win new electrical items every time they recycle an electrical item at one of the 15 Recycling Centres across Merseyside and Halton.

The lucky winners have been claiming their prizes, Kindle Fire HD winner, Valerie Atherton joined Clement Gaubert, Carl Beer, Chief Executive Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority and Paul Smyth to collect her prize (picture). Valerie, who recycled an old electrical item at Ravenhead Recycling Centre, was thrilled to receive a brand new Kindle Fire HD after she discovered she had a winning scratch card.

Veolia WEEE Scheme Manager, Clement Gaubert said: “Congratulations to Valerie for winning the Kindle Fire HD. There are still many great prizes to win and we encourage all Merseyside residents to visit their local Recycling Centre to pick up a scratch card for every old or broken small electrical item they bring.”

MRWA Chief Executive, Carl Beer said: “This is a great opportunity for residents to recycle their unwanted or broken electrical items and reduce the amount of materials we send to landfill. We’d encourage all residents to check around their home and take advantage of the Recycling Centres to recycle and dispose of their electrical items safely.
